Can Twitter Really Grow My Business?

April 13, 2010

I’ve been using Twitter almost every day now for the past three months. Recently I’ve noticed that I’ve spent less time on Facebook and more time on Twitter, even though I use Facebook for social connections while I rely on Twitter for building business relationships.

But now after several months of following and occasionally “unfollowing” the feeds of fellow Tweeters, I’ve found myself asking the question: Can I really grow my business with Twitter?

A few weeks ago, a Twitter member noticed my posts and offered me a proofreading  job which I gladly accepted. It was a small piece, not worth much, but it was an opportunity I treated like a million dollar client. It was, after all, the first of what I hope will be many freelancing opportunities to come from this social networking site.

My instincts tell me there’s plenty of work out in Twitterland, and I intend to find it. Over the next twelve weeks, I’ll work on The Great Twitter Experiment of 2010™, wherein I shall attempt to pick up some new business by using Twitter to its fullest potential.

And as God as my witness, I’ll never go hungry again!

(Sorry, got carried away there.)

Look for an upcoming post on the results of my efforts.

  1. like you, I’m also spending more time on Twitter than FB these days, but Twitter is part of my workday. it’s definitely helped my business, not only with new clients but also connections and resources I would otherwise never have found. am going to possibly four writer’s conferences because of Twitter. and am learning so much about my industry, it’s like getting a master’s. so I’m digging it.
