When Is the Best Time to Post a Blog?
April 27, 2010
A follower on Twitter asked me last week when I thought the best time of day his blog posts would capture the most readers. It’s an interesting question. Many people usually decide on a day to post but not necessarily a time. There are a few things to consider: Read more
The Value of a Second Set of Eyes
April 20, 2010
After a dozen years in the printing business, I’ve seen more than my share of typos. Most were simple misspellings, a few might have caused some mild embarrassment, and one or two may have cost people their jobs.
I remember an invitation we were asked to print about eight years ago. It was for a church event and the line should have read something like this: “These socials are an integral part of our success.”
But in place of “integral,” was the word “interracial.” Oops. It was probably the result of a word processing program gone awry. Or maybe the writer had a case of “Jungle Fever.”
The guys in the press room chuckled over it, but imagine if those invitations had gone out to the congregation? Not good.
Hiring a proofreader or copy editor can save your company the embarrassment of a typo or an unintentionally funny phrase or headline. Sometimes a second set of eyes can catch an unfortunate double entendre that the writer hadn’t noticed. Even copywriters use proofreaders and copy editors prior to publishing. Can you afford not to hire one?

Can Twitter Really Grow My Business?
April 13, 2010
I’ve been using Twitter almost every day now for the past three months. Recently I’ve noticed that I’ve spent less time on Facebook and more time on Twitter, even though I use Facebook for social connections while I rely on Twitter for building business relationships.
But now after several months of following and occasionally “unfollowing” the feeds of fellow Tweeters, I’ve found myself asking the question: Can I really grow my business with Twitter?
My Support Team

I may call myself a copywriter for the sake of brevity, but any successful person in my field does far more than simply write copy.
My experience in the world of commercial printing gave me a working knowledge of graphic design. Years of sitting in on meetings with marketing professionals gave me an understanding of how to implement a successful marketing plan. Members of my writer’s group have certain specialties and experience that make them experts in their field.
So what separates a good copywriter from a great one? I think a qualified copywriter must understand marketing and design, but also should know when it’s time to bring in a full-time professional. Same goes for writing. Sometimes it’s better to refer a client to a niche specialist when the subject matter is outside the comfort level of the copywriter in question. Believe me, your clients will appreciate it.
